Two effective systems that do not meet the same constraints

However, a linear drain is not automatically superior to a central drain. The choice depends on the position of the existing drain, the floor structure, the desired flooring, and the budget allocated to the shower.

How does a central drain work?

The central drain, also called a point drain, is the traditional solution. It can be installed at the geometric center of the shower or slightly off-center to accommodate the existing plumbing.

Why choose a linear drain?

The tile format must still be compatible with the slope and the required slip resistance in a wet area. A large, very smooth surface can become uncomfortable or slippery, even if it is aesthetically pleasing.
With a central drain, mosaic tiles generally remain the simplest choice. They allow you to follow the slopes without requiring multiple complex cuts.
Which system is the easiest to clean?

A central drain has a compact grate that can usually be removed to access the drain. Its small surface area makes it quick to clean.
The linear drain has a longer channel. It offers a large collection area, but requires lifting the grate and periodically cleaning the inside of the channel.
Some models include a basket or filter designed to trap hair.
The level of maintenance depends in particular on:
